Implicit Bias
Implicit bias describes thoughts/feelings and preferences/aversions to groups of people that cause us to have particular attitudes and behaviors towards these groups without our conscious knowledge. These attitudes and behaviors, left unchecked, will wreak havoc on your anti-racism work and relationships!
You will learn about the ways that implicit bias manifests as racial prejudice, the ways that various categories of privilege can increase the negative impacts of implicit bias on marginalized people, and strategies and tips on how to mitigate personal and organizational bias.
Implicit bias is somewhat of a mind trip because it exists outside of our own awareness. Problematic beliefs about groups of people are so normalized throughout society that we can start to believe them without even knowing it. Even those of us who call ourselves anti-racists!
These impacts can be seen throughout society. This is a serious issue that we must prioritize if we want to create an equitable world for all people.
I'm excited to give you the tools and knowhow to identify/disrupt this phenomenon and I hope to see you at this class! Register now for "Implicit Bias" and continue to prioritize your growth in order to support your commitment to anti-racism.
